Once
you have taken the F.A.C course and are in possession of a valid
P.A.L, you can take the WSSC Club Safety Course. This course is
taught by an Ontario Handgun Association trained Instructor and teaches
OHA approved safety aspects of handgun shooting. The basic OHA safety
course as adapted to our particular handgun Club, involves a half-day of
classroom instruction, actual live firing on the range, as well as a
test. The course and the test cost $75.00. (This course is offered
monthly) Upon successful completion of the WSSC Safety Course and test you become a "probationary member". This allows you to come to the club during regular hours and shoot a .22 caliber handgun. You will be given a "probationary member" badge that must be worn at all times. You must notify the Director on desk duty that you are a probationary member your name will be entered in the probationary member's book each time you visit the club. The Director will notify the Range Officer (or appoint someone else) to keep an eye on you while you are shooting. Remember if you have ANY questions ASK! Never assume or guess when it comes to firearms. You will find that all our members are eager to help out a new shooter, especially answering questions about guns or tips on how to shoot more accurately. |
You will remain on probation until you have completed a minimum of six shooting sessions and have produced 10 scoring targets (10 targets that have all 10 shots within the scoring rings). At the end of each shooting night you must show your targets to the Director on duty who will enter them into the probationary member book. The Director will also add some comments for each day you come to shoot. If you are unable to complete these requirements within three months, you may be required to retake the safety course (at no additional fee). If during a subsequent three months you are unable to fulfill these requirements your application for membership will be denied. Once the probation requirements are met your application will be taken to the next monthly Directors meeting, at which time the Directors, if satisfied you are a safe and responsible shooter, you will be voted in as a full member. Once you are voted in you may decide if this is for you or not and if so, you may join the club. The yearly membership donation of $170.00 includes $45.00 which goes to CFI for your membership to the Canadian Firearms Institute. This gives you $5,000,000 liability insurance at shooting events. As a member in good standing we will apply for a carry permit for you to allow you to bring a handgun from home to any approved range and home again. |
